Walberg visits southern U.S. border

Congressman Tim Walberg is calling for more resources for border patrol agents in the south following a visit to the border last week. He tells us he and other members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee took a tour in Texas and found busy reception centers with immigrants seeking to enter the country. He says it’s wasn’t like that on his tour during the last administration.

“There was a major change that we saw there, and I think the frustration that was exhibited among the border patrol agents was they were spending a significant amount of their time on customs and border inspection as opposed to spending their time as they were trained on the border.”

Walberg says border patrol agents should be able to spend more time at the border itself.

“The frustration was that they were not at the border, they were not policing the areas that they should be policing.”

Walberg said as a result of fewer border patrols, more drugs are able to be smuggled into the country. He also says border patrol complained they’re outgunned by cartels when it comes to drones to observe the border. He’s calling for the former Remain in Mexico policy to be reinstated. Meanwhile, the Biden administration on Tuesday released a new policy that would bar many migrants who traveled through Mexico from other countries from seeking asylum in the U.S. It could take effect in a few months.
