6 arrested after meth ‘flop house’ raid in Van Buren County

Six Van Buren County residents have been arrested after a November 2022 raid of what police are calling a ‘flop house’ in Lawton.

Following multiple tips about the sales and use of methamphetamine at house in Antwerp Township, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on Nov. 29, 2022 in the 66000 Block of 26th Street.

Detectives were given information that this was a flop house for anyone who wanted to come and stay and use methamphetamine, according to a police report. During the search, multiple subjects were inside and outside of the house, including two children under the age of eight.

After the search off the residence was complete and child protective services removed the children, a report was sent to the Van Buren County Prosecutor for review. On Thursday, Feb. 16, detectives with the county narcotics united went to multiple locations in Paw Paw and Lawton and made six arrests, of the following individuals on charges of Possession of meth:

  • Tessa Bunch, 31, Paw Paw
  • Eric White, 31, Paw Paw
  • Christopher Hewitt, 44, Lawton
  • James Williams, 53, Lawton
  • Paul Chamness, 44, Lawton
  • Robert Thomas, 50, Lawton

All  subjects listed were lodged at the Van Buren County Jail.
