Now running for mayor of Benton Harbor is resident Gwen Johnson. She’s the founder of the anti-police abuse group, the SHARP Foundation, and says she wants to give power back to the people. Johnson’s platform includes honoring the voices and rights of the community, mental health advocacy, a racial equity department, job creation, training and stability, and peace in the streets. Her campaign website is ANewDayANewWay.org. Up for election in November in Benton Harbor will be the office of mayor and four city commission seats. Mayor Marcus Muhammad has not yet announced if he’s seeking reelection.
