RICHARD GORDON ENGEL
January 18, 1941 – January 22, 2023
Richard Gordon Engel, 82, of Berrien Springs, died Jan. 22, 2023, at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.
Services will be Friday, Jan. 27, at Allred Funeral Home, Berrien Springs, where friends may visit beginning at 11 a.m. prior to the funeral at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society. www.allredfuneralhome.com.
Richard was born and raised in Buckhorn on the family farm and attended school in Berrien Springs, graduating in 1959. He became a journeyman carpenter while working for Local Union #898 and #525. He married Judith Rudell and started a family, later building his own home. He continued his career at Holland Construction before retiring from Fiskars Construction. He was a very talented carpenter and built many things for his family.
After retirement he spent many hours refurbishing a 1934 Plymouth which he took to many car shows and parades. Rich took great pride in his lawn and flowers, and in the pond that he built in his backyard. He enjoyed relaxing there, watching and feeding the birds and squirrels.
He was very loved by his family, and he will be missed. Survivors include his wife, Darlene; sons: Richard Gordon (Denise) Engel II, Edward David (Kelly Allegree) Engel, Andrew Jon (Jennifer G. Marquis) Engel; grandchildren: Brandee Metropulos, Tye Lovett, Alex and Riley Engel, Nora and Lena Schultz; and his siblings: Helen Metzger, Herbert D. Engel, Esther Engel, Edna Golladay, and Janette Engel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Amelia (Falk) Engel; and his son, Christopher Allen Engel.
