As we approach 2023, Michigan’s Attorney General Dana Nessel has her eyes set on a key change to rules at the Michigan state Capitol building, rules she says can soon be enacted with Democrats taking control of all three chambers of the state government.
“I have had conversations with the governor, with Democrats that are about to take over power in both the House and Senate, and I have basically begged them to do something in the way of banning firearms at the Capitol to make sure that we are protecting the public and not just protecting the lives of those who are our elected leaders who serve us.”
The call for a ban on firearms at Michigan’s state Capitol building in Lansing stems from the armed protest in April of 2020 from those who opposed COVID-19 emergency declarations. The sentencing of members of the Wolverine Watchmen militia implicated in the kidnapping plot of Governor Whitmer this month sparked renewed calls for the firearm ban.
