A planning project between the city of Buchanan and Andrews University has won an award. The city says A Vision for Buchanan received the national award from the Urban Guild for Student Work at a ceremony on Wednesday. The vision was created over six months by the city and the Andrews School of Architecture and Design. A team of students asked the community to imagine development opportunities for Buchanan. Community Development Director Richard Murphy says they were challenged “to think in ways that highlight Buchanan’s unique strengths while remaining true to its community identity.” Themes included placemaking, pedestrian-oriented design, family friendliness, historic preservation, and inclusive economic development. A Vision for Buchanan will be used to help guide the development of the town in the years ahead.
