125 pounds of illegal marijuana, guns seized by SWET

The Southwest Enforcement Team has been busy lately.

SWET detectives, along with Berrien County Sheriff deputies and Michigan State Police (MSP) Niles post troopers, executed a search warrant Thursday, December 1 on Ogden Ave near Summerfelt Drive in Benton Township. SWET located and seized approximately one and a half pounds of black-market marijuana packaged for sale and a stolen firearm from Tennessee.

A 32-year-old Benton Harbor man was arrested and lodged in the Berrien County jail for being a felon in possession of a firearm, using a firearm during the commission of a felony, receiving and concealing a stolen firearm, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, maintaining a drug house and three local traffic warrants.

ADDITIONAL SWET ACTIVITY

On November 29, SWET detectives and MSP Niles post troopers stopped a 29-year-old Grand Rapids man who was selling crystal methamphetamine from his vehicle in the River Terrace Apartment complex at 200 River Terrace Dr in Benton Harbor. The man was found with 56 grams of crystal methamphetamine in his pants pocket. He was subsequently arrested and lodged in the Berrien County jail for possession with intent to deliver crystal methamphetamine 2nd offense and maintaining a drug vehicle.

On November 27, Berrien County Sheriff deputies responded to an assault with a deadly weapon complaint on County Line Rd in Watervliet Township after a 47-year-old Kentucky man threatened another man with a firearm.

Deputies soon discovered a large amount of marijuana and SWET was called to assist. Through additional investigations, SWET and Berrien County Sheriff deputies located and seized approximately 125 pounds of black-market marijuana, a small amount of cocaine, two pistols, two rifles, and two shotguns in the possession of the Kentucky man.

He was subsequently arrested and lodged in the Berrien County jail for assault with a deadly weapon. Additional charges will be sought later from the prosecutor’s office for marijuana, firearms, and cocaine violations.
