Now installed and open to everyone is a new story book trail at Britain Youth Park in Benton Harbor. The Great Start Collaborative’s Kristen Chism tells us families can take a walk through the book, D.J.’s Busy Day at the park.

“Families can come and enjoy a book that is printed on a permanent panel, so the panels are permanently at the park, and the book encourages families to talk, read, and sing with their children every day,” Chrism said.

The Clinton Foundation has paid for the Story Book Trail as part of the “Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing” campaign. Chism says D.J.’s Busy Day tells the story of a day in the life of a young bunny who learns from loved ones about everyday experiences.

“It just goes through this little bunny’s day and the ups and downs, but also how his caregivers handles those things with him. It’s modeling that behavior that we’re encouraging.”

Chism says the story book trail encourages young literacy and teaches lessons. The trail was installed last week and it’s been getting positive reviews. A celebration of its opening is planned for the spring, but anyone can check it out now at the park at the corner of Britain and Pipestone.
