There are new laws ahead of the upcoming school year that makes it illegal for someone to enter a school bus without the bus driver’s permission. State Representative Jack O’Malley helped write the legislation. He spoke with Michigan News Network.
“Boarding a bus could be punishable by a fine if you don’t have permission,” O’Malley said. “Our school bus drivers need to know that we respect them, and we want to extend that same safety that we want to give school buildings to our school bus drivers when they’re out there in the field.”
Schools will also have the option to equip buses with a stop-arm camera system.
