Andrews University has received a $10,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Fund to boost the university’s Adult Basic Education programs. The local grant is part of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation’s recent award of $10.5 million to support summer, family, and adult literacy programs. Andrews University’s Christon Arthur says the university is “proud to partner with Dollar General and Neighbor to Neighbor in meeting the needs of our community.” He says Andrews University recognizes the need for Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language, and a High School Equivalency Program to provide access to economic opportunities for the well-being of Berrien Springs, neighboring communities, and seasonal workers. The Dollar General says more than 43 million adults in the United States cannot read, write, or do basic math above a third-grade level.
