Add cars and trucks to those items that cost more. Triple A’s 2022 “Your Driving Costs” report shows the annual cost to own and operate a new vehicle is now over $10,000, or $894 dollars a month. Triple A spokeswoman Adrienne Woodland says that the report is conducted with nine different vehicle categories on about 45 car models.
“We select top selling, mid-priced models and compare them,” says Woodland. The categories compared include “fuel, maintenance, repair and tire costs, insurance, license, registration and taxes, depreciation, and finance charges.”
The driving reports assumes a five-year ownership period with the vehicle being driven about 15,000 miles a year.
