A workshop on the Michigan Reconnect program will be held at Lake Michigan College this month. LMC Admissions Director Caroline Tubbs tells us a representative of the program will be on hand to answer questions. Michigan Reconnect is a last-dollar scholarship program that covers tuition costs of eligible students to attend community college to complete an associate degree or a skill certificate program. Tubbs says there are now multiple ways to overcome financial hurdles to college.
“I personally went to a community college and filled out the FAFSA, filled out scholarships and went tuition-free, and I didn’t go to LMC, this was years ago” Tubbs said. “But with the Michigan Reconnect, it just makes it all the more possible for students who are 25 and older to go to college, to earn that degree, to explore new career paths,” Tubbs said.
To be eligible for Michigan Reconnect, students must be a Michigan resident age 25 or older with a high school diploma or equivalent who has not yet completed their college degree. Tubbs says you can register to attend LMC’s information session at LakeMichiganCollege.edu/Reconnect. The workshop will be Wednesday, July 13 starting at 6 p.m. in Room 1304 in the Todd Center on the Benton Township campus of Lake Michigan College.
