If you’re looking for a pet for your home, the Bissell Pet Foundation is funding Empty The Shelters over the next two weeks. 45 shelters in Michigan are involved. Bissell Pet Foundation founder Cathy Bissell told Michigan News Network the need is great.

“We know the shelters are full, and the stay for large animals, especially for big dogs, is longer,” Bissell said. “They’re staying there longer in the shelters and it changes their personalities. They really want to be in homes.”

Bissell says shelters are more full because of vet and staff shortages and not as many people adopting lately. She says you can adopt a pet through Empty the Shelters for 25 dollars or less. Among the shelters taking part is the Al Van Humane Society in South Haven.
