The Maud Preston Palenske Memorial Library in St. Joseph has had to temporarily scale back its hours a bit due to staffing issues. The library’s Stephanie Masin tells us they’ve had a “whole bunch” of issues crop up in the last month and have lost about 100 staff hours. The library is closing early on Mondays and Wednesday, closing at 6 p.m. The hours for Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday remain 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday’s hours are 10 to 6, and Saturday’s hours are 10 to 5. Masin says the library has made two recent hires and it’s still looking for two new employees. The library board has voted to require an associate degree of applicants, rather than a bachelor’s degree. They’ll also accept a college student with at least 60 credit hours so Lake Michigan College students will be eligible. Masin is hoping things will be back to normal later in May.
