The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has approved the appointment of an interim animal shelter manager. The board on Thursday approved changes to the structure of Berrien County Animal Control, putting the animal control officers under the oversight of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department and making the shelter separate. Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey was named animal control officer and appointed as shelter manager was Ashley Herr. She is currently a kennel supervisor and has been in the role since July of 2019. The county board’s resolution states she has “exhibited a superior level of leadership” and is qualified to serve as shelter manager on an interim basis. The board’s resolution also deletes the position of animal control director. The most recent person to serve in that role was Tiffany Peterson.
