United Way Announces Youth Scholarship Award Winners

unitedway-2020

The United Way of Southwest Michigan has announced this year’s Volunteer United Youth Scholarship Awards. There is one winner from each of the group’s counties, Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren. It says the winners of scholarships have demonstrated a commitment to volunteerism through creativity, dedication, and advocacy for community improvement throughout their high school careers. The $1,000 scholarships are going to Breckyn Bussey of St. Joseph High School, Katie Schaible of Edwardsburg High School, and Alyssa Wilson of South Haven High School. The United Way of Southwest Michigan says when young people volunteer in their community, they develop a sense of connectedness to people and situations outside of their comfort zones, and they also hone skills important for employment. Applications for the 2023 Volunteer United Youth Scholarship awards will open in January next year. At that time, online submissions will be accepted at UWSM.org.
