A 24-year-old Benton Harbor man will spend the next 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. The FBI arrested Joseph Favorite on July 1, 2021 after a loaded 9 mm pistol with a 50-round drum magazine attached in his bedroom. He was banned from having guns due to his 2016 convictions of assault to to great bodily harm and assault with a dangerous weapon. Judge Jane Beckering cited Favorite’s “violent history” and said he contributed to “the escalating violence in Benton Harbor.” Favorite had an active warrant for his arrest for a June 27, 2021 incident and was a parole absconder.
