A 1,375 square foot mural is being planned for South Haven High School. South Haven CURB co-founder Suzanne Loafman tells WSJM News the group teamed up with the South Haven Center for the Arts to plan a mural for a large wall near the south entrance of the school. They have received a $4,000 grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council.
“The art center filled out the grant and it was awarded, and now, we are working with the local artist to come up with ideas,” Loafman said. “We’ve surveyed the entire student body to get their creative input on what they would like to see on that wall.”
Local artist Kayla Ridley has worked to come up with some possible designs after students were surveyed and selected a theme for the mural.
“It was overwhelmingly strength, teamwork and progress, and the colors, of course.”
Those would be purple and gold, the school colors. Loafman says two possible designs will be presented to students in about two weeks and they will vote on their favorite. It’s hoped work on the mural, to be done by the artist and students together, can start in May or June.
