Honor Credit Union has raised some funds for the Benton Township Fire Department. Credit Union team members have presented Fire Chief Rob Harper a check of $5,029 for the purchase of a new Jaws of Life. Those devices free people from wrecked vehicles. The dollars were collected through a fundraiser held through Honor’s Facebook page and at Honor’s Benton Harbor Member Center. Honor Community Assistant Vice President Beth Anderson says when the fire department brought the need for new equipment to the credit union’s attention, it wasn’t even a question of whether Honor would help. The Benton Township Fire Department says its current Jaw of Life sets are 17 years old and 47 years old. The usual lifespan for the extraction equipment is ten years. The department is looking to replace both of its sets at a total cost of around $48,000.
