An address by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Congress last week is getting high marks from Congressman Fred Upton. He tells WSJM News Zelenskyy painted a stark picture of what has happened to his country since Russia’s invasion.

“His message was a good one,” Upton said. “It was not dissimilar to what his predecessor, President Poroshenko, told us when he came and spoke to a joint session of Congress a few years ago, that they need more than blankets. As it turns out, I was one of only 39 Republicans who joined most of the Democrats in supporting both humanitarian aid as well as military assistance when we finished up with our fiscal year 2022 appropriation bills two weeks ago.”

Upton says he and colleagues are also calling for a humanitarian corridor in Ukraine to protect both the Ukrainians and the Russians. He says it is encouraging to see the Ukrainians mounting offensives and taking back areas previously taken by Russia as Putin’s plan to overwhelm the country in a few days has failed.
