Russia will be the topic of the South Haven Speakers Series on March 31. Western Michigan University political science professor Dr. Jim Butterfield will present “The Roots of the Russian-American Discord” at 7 p.m. on the South Haven campus of Lake Michigan College. Dr. Butterfield will discuss why Russia acts as it does toward the United States and other western nations, and says it draws on significant factors including its culture, religious Orthodoxy, search for identity and the breakup of the Soviet Union. He is a Fulbright Scholar, twice in Russia and once in Vietnam. He has also directed study abroad programs in Russia and Turkey. Admission for the speech is $10 and current COVID-19 protocols will be enforced. The presentation will not be streamed live.
