Governor Gretchen Whitmer stopped by the University of Detroit Mercy as keynote speaker for upcoming graduates this week. It was the annual Dollars for Scholars luncheon. The governor used the occasion to tout what she called a growing economy, with greater opportunity for graduates in addition to reiterating her “Sixty By Thirty” goal.

“Michigan’s goal is to get to 60% of our adult population to a postsecondary certificate or degree by 2030,” Whitmer said. “Despite all of the things that we’ve been navigating the last couple of years, we have improved our numbers by 4%, which is up to 49%. So, we are getting closer to that goal, which is great.”

The Dollars for Scholars program has awarded more than $2.5 million in scholarships since its inception.
