Michigan Senate Republicans have approved a resolution calling for policies that will lead to energy independence for the United States to reduce costs. State Senator Aric Nesbitt tells WSJM News there are a few things to talk about here.

“One is our support of Line 5 and keeping Line 5 open, which means keeping these pipelines open and keeping American energy flowing through them,” Nesbitt said. “We’re calling on Governor Whitmer and Attorney General Dana Nessel to stop their lawsuits trying to shut that down.”

Nesbitt says the Biden administration has also refused new permits to pump oil from federal lands and stopped the Keystone XL pipeline.

“I just find it disgusting to see that they’re talking to Venezuela and Iran about trying to get oil from there, which are evil regimes that continue to do harm to their citizens just as we do the right thing and stop the flow from President Putin’s Russia.”

Nesbitt says there were talks Wednesday in the Senate about suspending the state’s gasoline tax. He notes Governor Gretchen Whitmer on Tuesday called on Congress to suspend the federal gas tax, but not the state gas tax.
