The Ambassador Bridge between the U.S. and Canada was closed in both directions Thursday as Canadian truckers and others protested vaccine mandates in Canada. U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow told Michigan News Network Governor Gretchen Whitmer was working with the White House to see what they can work out with Canada.
“It’s deeply concerning that a small group of people are really shutting down the economy and hurting us, causing plants to lay off folks,” Stabenow said. “I think people have the right to protest, but they don’t have a right to shut down economies and hurt people.”
Stabenow says 25% of the trade between the U.S. and Canada goes across that one bridge. She called the situation very serious and said officials were working for a quick resolution.
