The South Haven Memorial Library is getting moved into its newly renovated building. Director Jim France tells us they worked out of a temporary space while major work was done on the old building. The building now has a couple of new sections.
“One of them is approximately 900 square feet and is now housing our non-fiction section, and we’ve got another couple of hundred square foot section right at the front of the building.”
The renovations also include new furniture, new restrooms, a new HVAC system, additional storage, extra floorspace, and a gas-powered fireplace. Staff are now moving everything back into the building, and France says that’s a major process.
“It’s getting stuff back into place, and there’s a lot of figuring things out at the same time because we might be able to say this is where the non-fiction is, this is where the fiction is, but what’s the flow going to be like?”
France says you can call and leave a message, but the phones at the renovated location aren’t yet installed. Your better option is to send an email if you have to reach the library. For now, the library is closed, although ebooks and audio books are available. All fees are being waived during the move in period.
