U.S. Senator Gary Peters is one of many lawmakers in the state who celebrated Martin Luther King Junior Day Monday. Peters released a video to commemorate the day, saying we can never lose sight of the dream Dr. King instilled in us all.
“We cannot allow the very bedrock of our democracy, the right to vote, to erode before our eyes,” Peters said. “We must safeguard our democracy against efforts that are seeking to undermine access to the ballot box.”
Peters went on to say he is supporting passage of the voting rights legislation into law, including the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. He says they are vital for protecting every American’s right to make their voice heard.
