Ski season is kicking off in Michigan. Many ski resorts will open this weekend and next throughout Michigan, according to the executive director of the Michigan Snow Sports Industries Association, Mickey McWilliams. She spoke with Michigan News Network about the start of the new ski season.

“We’re really, really optimistic about this winter,” McWilliams said. “We had a very surprisingly good winter last year, even with all of the protocols hat we had to put in place because of the pandemic, and this year, people just really seem to want to get out on the slopes and we’re happy to have them.”

McWilliams says there are 2 to 2.4 million skier visits in Michigan every year. She says winter sports pumps $3.9 billion into the state’s economy and most of that is from skiing.
