Boil Water Advisory Issued In South Haven

mkl-2

The South Haven Department of Public Works has issued a boil-water advisory for parts of the city. It has released the following:

On the evening of November 18, 2021, the South Haven Area Water & Sewer Authority (SHAWSA) experienced a water main break at Phoenix and Bluestar Highway. Due to the water
main break system pressure dropped below 20 psi in the attached map area.
In anticipation of the water service being restored to the affected area, SHAWSA is issuing a boiled water advisory until further notice.

Due to the reduction of water pressure within the affected service area, the Michigan Environment, Great Lakes & Energy (EGLE) requires our public water system, SHAWSA, WSSN 06101, to notify customers to boil their water before consumption. This boil water notice affects all customers within the service area of the attached map.

Water for drinking, cooking, and making ice should be boiled and cooled before consumption to
ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. Instead of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from a suitable alternate source
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the water system officials will notify you that the water is safe for consumption. The rescind notice will be issued in the same manner as this Boil Water Notice.

The SHAWSA is required to perform bacteriological testing over 72 hours before canceling this notice.

The Department of Public Works apologizes for the inconvenience to our customers. If you have questions regarding this matter, you may contact William Hunter, Public Works Director, at 269-637-0737.
