The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is offering additional resources to Benton Harbor residents as it continues to respond to the high levels of lead found in the drinking water of some homes. Among the services are blood tests for children. The department says patients at InterCare Family Health Network are eligible for free lead testing, along with those who are enrolled WIC participants at the Berrien County Health Department. It’s also telling residents they may be eligible for services to find and remove lead hazards from their homes, including lead-based paint. Residents could be eligible for a home lead inspection, testing for lead in drinking water, and help fixing lead hazards. They can learn more by calling the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services at 866-691-5323. Meanwhile, MDHHS continues to distribute bottled water to Benton Harbor residents.
