A couple of social services agencies are preparing to help refugees from Afghanistan who are expected to make their way to Michigan soon. Troy-based Samaritas and west Michigan-based Bethany Christian Services aren’t sure how many people they will be helping or when. Bethany Christian Services Director for Refugee and Immigrant Services Susan Kragt told Michigan News Network more.

“We help them with finding housing initially and getting employment,” Kragt said. “Helping kids get into school and navigating that. We also have mental health services.”

Kragt says they are hoping they can welcome some Afghan refugees in the Grand Rapids area. More than 19,000 people were evacuated out of Afghanistan by the U.S. on Tuesday alone.
