Michigan Works is planning a Career and Community Expo for this month. Talent Exchange Specialist LaRon Harris tells WSJM News this will be a day of job interviews, food, music, prize giveaways, and more. Michigan Works will have around 30 organizations on hand.

“We’re trying to partner our organizations, many different organizations in the community — Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties — with different individuals in the community seeking employment and supportive services,” Harris said.

Among the employers to be there are Four Winds Casino, Michigan State Police, and Spectrum Health Lakeland. Harris says as the pandemic is easing, it’s a great time to find a job.

“If someone came into Michigan Works looking for employment, I can pretty much get them an interview the same day or the next day with the position that I have and just the connections that I’m making in the community. Jobs are plentiful.”

The Career and Community Expo will be family friendly, with a bounce house and other activities for the kids so mom and dad can interview with possible employers. Harris says the event will be on June 30 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Michigan Works office in Benton Harbor. It will be held outdoors, but there will be rooms for interviews to take place.
