The Berrien County Parks Department will hold a community recycling event next weekend. Parks Director Jill Adams tells WSJM News they’ll be at the Southeast Berrien County Landfill Recycling Center in Buchanan on Saturday, May 15 from 8 a.m. to noon. Berrien County residents can drop off items including household chemicals, batteries, garden chemicals, medical waste, electronics, and documents to be recycled or destroyed for free. This is the second recycling event of the year, and Adams says hundreds came out for the first.

“The kickoff event of the year, we had nearly 800 cars come through that event,” Adams said. “It was very successful. Everyone that came through showed their appreciation that, one, the event could happen this year, and two, that people could go to one location and get rid of all these items at one time.”

As with the event in April, the one slated for this month will be drive-through, meaning the volunteers will unload all materials from vehicles and everyone’s asked to stay in their cars. Adams says recycling the items they’re taking is better for the environment than just throwing them away. New this year is that they’re taking foam. You can find out more right here.
