Fruit growers throughout Michigan are assessing the damage after a couple of cold nights with temperatures dropping into the low 20s in some spots. Michigan Farm Bureau crop insurance manager Kevin Robson says they’re concerned about peach and apple trees and tart cherries in southwest Michigan.
“They were prepared for the cold nights but it’ll take some time before we can see exactly what the damage was,” says Robson. “Is this like the frost/freeze of 2012? No, and this is something that I think that our growers are navigating through.”
Robson says fruit is not as far along the further north you go, although he says some areas have quite a bit of bloom.
