Central Michigan University Asking For Change In Appropriations

As some universities in Michigan are seeing declining enrollment in the midst of this pandemic, some university officials addressed a state House Higher Education and Community Colleges Appropriations subcommittee. Central Michigan University president Robert Davies says their total revenue is $439 million with a state allocation of $89 million and expenses $446 million.

“CMU is in the lower half of per-person appropriations, yet maintains among the lowest tuition rates in the state,” says Davies. “I urge you to consider changing the appropriations for higher education to address the disparities in funding and to recognize institutions for their efforts to keep costs low and serve their students.”

Davies says they’ve had budget cuts the past few years and expects them in the future.
