A Michigan Senate bill that would allow continued remote meetings for governing boards around the state has the support of the Berrien County Board of Commissioners. The board approved a resolution in support of Senate Bill 207 on Thursday. Although some commissioners want to meet in person, County Administrator Brian Dissette told them other state health rules make that difficult.
“It is a total of 25 people, and it still requires six feet of separation,” Dissette said.
Commissioner Julie Wuerfel said with vaccines going to certain citizens and CDC rules changing, there should be some way for a degree of in-person meetings.
“I do want to encourage us to be the leaders of this community, and as these changes are starting to be instituted, we need to be willing to start making that change as a hybrid model,” Wuerfel said.
The current state rule allowing remote meetings will expire at the end of the month. The Senate bill would extend that to June 30.
