Why did Robert Gordon exit as director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services? Reporters asked Governor Whitmer that three times during Monday’s press conference.
“I don’t think I have anything to add in regard to my comments on the former director. I’ve shared with you I wish him well, and I’m grateful for his leadership,” said the governor.
Whitmer’s answer wasn’t good enough, prompting a question of was he asked to step down or was it expected.
“I’ve answered that question, I think,” she said. “The only thing I’ll say is it’s been a grueling couple of years, and changes in administrations happen.”
She says she’s fortunate Elizabeth Hertel was in a position in the DHHS to be able to take over on Friday.
