The Van Buren County Board of Commissioners is forming the Palisades Community Advisory Panel to educate people on the decommissioning of the nuclear plant. Entergy is shutting it down in the spring of 2022, and Palisades completed its final refueling outage in October. Details about the CAP will be released after the new year. Members will be diverse in interests, backgrounds, and professional expertise. That includes state, tribal, and local governments, public health, education, the general public, and more. Palisades has been part of the community for nearly 50 years, and Van Buren County Board Chairman Richard Godfrey says decades of work remain there after it’s done producing electricity. Decommissioning will start after the plant’s closure and reactor defueling under the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s regulations.
