The Michigan State Police Missing Children’s Clearinghouse is taking entries in this year’s National Missing Children’s Day Poster Contest. The agency’s Jolene Hardesty tells WSJM News the contest seeks fifth graders to draw up posters bringing attention to the issue of missing children with the theme of “Bringing our Missing Children Home.” Entries come in from kids across the state each year, and Hardesty says it’s interesting to see what they come up with.

“I see their life,” Hardesty said. “I see their creativity coming out. You get to look at the world through the child’s eyes, which is really special, because they get to draw the world as they see it.”

Hardesty says there are almost 700 missing children in Michigan right now. The state’s top winning artist in the contest will have a shot at the national contest, which includes a free trip to Washington, D.C. and their artwork featured as the National Missing Children’s Day poster.
