A donation of $250,000 has been announced for Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates by the Consumers Energy Foundation. Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates is a program run by Youth Solutions. It helps students graduate high school and then seek out job skills through education or employment. Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates Director Kristin Harrington tells WSJM News the Consumers Energy grant will enable it to expand its employer engagement program.
“The employer engagement framework walks young people through several tiers, from an exploration phase to exposure to industries and jobs, to experience where then they would be doing things on site with an employer, such as an internship, before the young person actually goes into the employment opportunity,” Harrington said.
Harrington says the employer engagement program helps a student find the right career fit. It’s expected the Consumers Energy grant will enable nearly 8,000 young people to take part in the next year across the Lower Peninsula. Harrington says Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates has a 90% success rate with helping students graduate, and a more than 80% success rate with finding a career. She says the grant will be a big boost to the program’s efforts.
