There will be a march for peace this weekend in St. Joseph and Benton Harbor as residents of the two communities seek to come together. St. Joseph Mayor Pro Tem Laura Goos says everyone’s invited to walk with the demonstrators on Saturday.
“We’re literally marching, so those who are physically able to march, we’ll be meeting on Wayne Street near the courthouse,” Goos said. “There will be some speakers, and then there’s going to be a walk across the bridge to Benton Harbor so we can join our two communities.”
Goos and other St. Joseph city leaders this week expressed their commitment to ending racial injustice. The march will start at 4 p.m. at Wayne Street and Port Street. It will then go along the bluff back to Wayne Street. Finally, it will proceed on to Dwight P. Mitchell City Center Park in Benton Harbor.
