Spectrum Health is now offering free virtual screenings for COVID-19. The health system says it’s making the screenings available to help prevent the spread of the illness and also to ease anxiety. Spectrum Health Medical Group President Darryl Elmouchi tells WSJM News they’ve set up a hotline for people to make appointments. After that, individuals will speak via video with a Spectrum Health provider who will advise whether they need to seek further care. Elmouchi says Spectrum is using the CDC recommendations to make that determination.
“Right now, particularly in the state of Michigan, the risks for this are not only do you have some element of fever, cough, and/or shortness of breath, but you’ve had some known exposure,” Elmouchi said. “Either you’ve been to a high-risk country, like recently came back from Italy or China, or you’ve been exposed to someone who potentially has COVID-19.”
Elmouchi says within days of the service launching, Spectrum had received around 70 calls for appointments. You do not have to be a Spectrum patient to use the service. More information can be found at SpectrumHealth.org/COVID19.
