Henry Mae “MaMa” McClendon, 93, returned to her heavenly home on October 2, 2019. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God were her foundation. She was a long-time resident of Benton Harbor, MI where she attended Beautiful Gate Baptist Church.
Mae was born in Augusta, AR on March 5, 1926. Mae was blessed with a large and loving family. She married the late Emery McClendon and legendarily mothered twelve children. She is also proceeded in death by five sons: Itema McClendon, Irvin Kyles, Jerry Guest Jr., Marion Guest, and Emery “Chucky” McClendon.
Mae is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator. Mae is survived by four daughters: Martha, Benton Harbor, MI; Connie Y. McClendon-Ford, Evelyn D. Campbell, Roseanna (Lou) Houston, all of Lansing, MI. Three sons: Emery Eugene and Eddie (Jeanette) McClendon both of Benton Harbor, MI; and Ricky of Lansing, MI. She also leaves to cherish her memories a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Mae‘s memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at 12 noon at Beautiful Gate Baptist Church; 809 Territorial Rd., Benton Harbor, MI. Family visitation will be at 11 am. Reverend Charlie M. Jones, Jr. will officiate the service. Mae will be buried at the Fort Custer National Cemetery (Augusta, MI) on Monday, October 14, 2019, at 11:00 a.m.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, Benton Harbor.
