Lakeshore High School’s baseball team is now back to back in state championships.
The Lancers beat opponent Saginaw Swan Valley 6-3 Saturday morning to take the Division 2 title for a second year in a row. The historic win was an emotional moment for all members of Lakeshore baseball.
“I can’t hold back the love I have for these guys,” said Head Baseball Coach Mark Nate. “For every kid I’ve coached in 13 years, it’s all showing up right now.”
A celebration of the win was held at Lancer Field upon the team’s return home. For the players, especially graduating seniors, there’s no better way to end the season.
“Going back to back after this year is insane,” said senior Tony Williams. “The best way to end your senior year is on top and winning your last game. Not many people can win their last game, so it’s amazing.”
Lakeshore is selling state championship merchandise online through July 1.
