The 2016 summer art is now on display in downtown St. Joseph. This year’s theme is “St. Joseph is All Abuzz!” and the statues are beach bugs. City Marketing Director Susan Solon says they’ve got 20 pieces located around the downtown area.

“We have caterpillars and ladybugs,” Solon told WSJM. “Our main attraction is at the northeast corner of Broad and State, and she is called ‘Hello.’ She can speak in several different languages to you, and she will offer to take your picture and e-mail it to your cell phone.”

The beach bugs were all painted by local artists, and will be on display downtown through the third week of September. That’s when they’ll be sold off at the St. Joseph Wine Festival and Art Auction. Solon says the statues were officially unveiled for the season, kicking off St. Joe’s summer, on Friday.
