The U.S. Coast Guard station in St. Joseph will hold an open house this Saturday. Executive Petty Officer Larry Lopez says anyone can stop by the station located at 127 North Pier Street from noon to four p.m. to see rescue vehicles and equipment, and also meet with all of the agencies that help the Coast Guard keep Lake Michigan safe.
“All of the resources that we use for any search and rescue case are going to be here,” Lopez told WSJM. “It’s a good opportunity to come out and shake some hands, and to see what kind of gear we’re using. The sheriff always brings some kind of diving equipment, and that’s always a fan favorite.”
The Coast Guard is holding the open house ahead of National Safe Boating Week, when everyone’s reminded to be cautious as they head back into the water for the summer. Lopez says the public is welcome to stop by throughout the afternoon.
