The City of St. Joseph is looking for a new Director of Public Safety. Mark Clapp submitted his letter of intent to retire on February 23rd. Clapp says he has had a full career with the city. He started in September of 1990 and served in many capacities including dispatcher, patrolman, detective, chief of police and director of public safety. He goes on to say the City of St. Joseph is a wonderful place and he is thankful to City Manager John Hodgson and the members of the St. Joseph City Commission, past and present, not only for their steadfast support, but also for allowing him the opportunity to serve the City and its residents for the past 25 years as a member of both the St. Joseph Police and Public Safety Departments. He has been offered and accepted a position as a court security officer with the Berrien County Courts. His last day at Director of Public Safety will be April 23rd.
Clapp was promoted to police chief in 2001 and named the public safety director in 2010 when former City Manager Frank Walsh combined St. Joseph’s police and fire departments.
