Another area sheriff is hanging up his badge. Van Buren County Sheriff Dale Gribler will not seek reelection this fall. Gribler has held the office since being elected in 1996. In a letter to the Van Buren County Board of Commissioners, the sheriff said it’s the right time to step aside because of the “excellent, cohesive staff we have,” saying he’s confident they will carry on a “strong tradition of quality service.” Gribler was the Van Buren County Undersheriff from 1980-1996 and before that served as the police chief in Lawrence. Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood has also said he will not run for another term.
