A K9 who had worked for the Van Buren County Sheriffs Department since 2005 has died. Goliath, a 12 year old German Shepherd, passed away Sunday morning, two weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. Goliath started life in the Czech Republic before coming to serve in southwest Michigan. He and his handler, Sergeant Tony Evans responded to more than 12 hundred calls during their time together. They made drug busts on I-94, and also made hundred of public outreach appearances. Goliath and Sergeant Evans were awarded in 2012 a lifesaving award for finding a missing 73 year old woman with Alzheimer’s. The sheriff says Goliath will be missed.
