New Lake Michigan College President Doctor Jennifer Spielvogel is getting settled into the job. Spielvogel just finished her first week at LMC, and tells us she’s till getting to know everyone and the college’s programs. Spielvogel says she wants to continue focusing on student success. She describes herself as very data-oriented.
“People will probably hear that a lot from me,” Spielvogel told WSJM. “‘Do you have any data on that? What are the numbers? Can we use that to make some better decisions?'”
Spielvogel says she keeps “the three Es” in mind when approaching programs and other decisions on the job.
“Experience, engagement, and effectiveness are the three Es that I’ve been trying to have people listen and hear what that might mean, and to find their place somewhere in that. Are they back office, or support projects, or are they in a position where they’re interacting with the community more?”
Spielvogel comes to LMC from Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland. She says she’s been impressed with LMC’s recent growth, and wants to continue working with local industry to make sure the college graduates students who can not only thrive, but be an asset to southwest Michigan businesses. She adds that she was already familiar with southwest Michigan before coming to LMC, having vacationed in the Union Pier and New Buffalo areas.
