There will be a changing of the guard tonight in Benton Harbor, as this evening marks the final city commission meeting for Benton Harbor Mayor James Hightower. Commissioner Marcus Muhammad will be sworn in as mayor at the conclusion of the regular business of the commission along with newly-elected Commissioner-At-Large Brian Joseph and re-elected Commissioners Sharon Henderson, C.F. Jones, and Mary Alice Adams. Hightower guided the city through several years of state control under emergency managers Joe Harris and Tony Saunders. Harris was appointed by former Governor Jennifer Granholm, while Saunders was installed by Governor Rick Snyder in early 2013. The City Commission meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Benton Harbor City Hall.
